My dog has severe allergies, and we have tried every dry dog food on the market, even the ones which are supposed to be "non allergy". I finally decided I was going to make a 2nd attempt at creating my own dog food using "known" non allergenic foods. I wont bore you with photo's, it isn't pretty but after a bunch of research this seems like it works for my allergy kid! Besides who could resist this girl! Mommy sure can't!
6 large carrots, peeled and cut into chunks
1 large yam, peeled and cut into chunks
2 cups of brown rice, cooked
2 apples, cored, peeled and cut into small dice
1 tub of full fat cottage cheese
2 lbs of hamburger
1 container of tofu, firm
2 cans of green beans, rinsed well
Boil your hamburger for just a few minutes until just done, drain water, put into a large bowl
Next, boil your carrots and yam until your knife slides in easily, drain
Mix the remaining ingredients until well incorporated, you can refrigerate for up to 3 days then freeze it in single day servings.
You need to feed your dog 2 percent of their body weight per day, I feed 2 lbs of this a day and half a bananna and as many raw carrots as she wants. I do not feed her any people food, at least any processed type food. Straight from the table home made food is ok...

I think I may try this for our little one.
What a beautiful girl! We only have a cat, who eats anything he can get his grubby little paws on! His favorite is nacho cheese doritos! Luckily, no allergies. Much love, Raquel XO
Your dog is beautiful! We've got a Golden Retriever and he's doing fine with the purchased food - no allergies - but he'll steal any bits of fruit that aren't securely hidden from him. And anything with nuts. And yes, he's a lap dog too.
Your Martha reminds me soooo much of our beloved Shelby...we never had her ears "done" either. We lost her 10 years ago at the age of 14 and not a day goes by that we don't miss her sweet, sweet presence. Shelby loved peas...thought they were treats! And she HAD to have a pancake every Sunday, just like the rest of us!
Martha is a beautiful dog, and she sure is lucky to have such a doting mum.
We have recently found out that an all dry food diet is bad for cats, and we are trying to introduce them to wet food. It's a battle of wills at the moment.
BTW, Cheryl, I've given you an award, stop by sometime and collect it.
Wow, Martha is a gorgeous and very lucky dog to have a mum who takes care of her like this. Maybe we should all try this kind of food. It's looks pretty darned good to me. Hope you and Martha have a wonderful weekend.
What a lucky girl she is to have such a devoted mama! She's so sleek and pretty, too. I just love those rich, dark colors in her coat. Who's the buddy doggie tagging along in the photo?
This recipe looks very good and healthy. With the latest dog food recall, I'm switching to home made dog food also. Thanks for the recipe.
Love ya,
It's Heidi Heidi!!! :) I bet this is the one Tam was talking about!!! WOW WOW WOW!!!
