Suggestions Needed

I am having about 6 big parties this summer and am looking for some new ideas on what to serve!

In the past I have done the usual barbecued burgers/dogs/salads, a Mexican theme and related foods, Ribs, Salmon with the accompanying side dishes.

Several will be in late summer and it will be really warm.

Any ideas/suggestions/recipes/themes appreciated!StumbleUpon

How about simplifying a bit - do an ice cream party, or a dessert party, or a sandwich party, or a salad party.

Just a thought.

I recently went to a party and the entire "dinner" was appetizers! It was great.

Go crazy with salads: not just the usual green stuff, but grain salads, fruit salads, egg salads, chicken salads...not only can they all be prepared ahead of time, they are cooling and inexpensive, too.

Or, what about DIY summer rolls? Prepare rice wrappers or cabbage, and have all sorts of different filling options like cucumbers, daikon, sprouts, chicken, shrimp, rice noodles, fresh herbs, and several different dips and dressings.

Or...BIBIMBAP! Korean mixed rice bowl. Or Mexican rice bowls. Things that can be prepared ahead of time again, and have people mix up their own bowls.

Good luck with your parties! I'm sure they'll be a freaking success, whatever you do!

I am the worst at throwing parties... please post what you end up doing so I can get some good ideas! ☺ There is an award for you on my blog.

What about lots of different kebobs? Chicken, flank steak (threaded). It's great because you can prepare them the night before. You can even do your appetizers on a skewer (grape tomato, bocconcini, roasted pepper, basil) or dessert (marshamallows and brownie bites, maybe dip them in caramel sauce)

It looks like you've already got some good suggestions here, Cheryl. Which is perhaps as well, as I'm totally clueless when it comes to stuff like this. :-)

Hi Cheryl, We're having some OPEN HOUSES this summer and I was just contemplating the exact question ... what would be easy. Just last night I served the "Out of this World Marinated Flank Steak" recipe from TastyKitchen (http://thepioneerwoman.com/tasty-kitchen/recipes/main-courses/out-of-this-world-marinated-flank-steak/) and it was delectable. I was thinking that we could buy 3-4 "2 packs of flank steak" from Costco, marinate it for 2 days, grill it up, cut it up quickly with an electric knife, and serve it up. People will be oohing and aahhhhing about the amazing flavor of the meat and how tender it is. I love this one! GOOD LUCK and I agree with the others, please let us know what you decide!

There used to be a website called Island Madness that had great decorations. I don't know if it's still up but check it out if it' there.

Six parties? SIX!!! Wow, I hope you'll have some helpers! You've rec'd some good ideas and your own past party ideas sound great. I don't have any specific suggestions other than to say that I enjoy parties that are buffet style, with the food displayed are already in appeitzer/serving size pieces (ie: I don't have to carve my own). Looking forward to seeing what you decide!

You could do a kebab party - you could have appetizer kebabs where you alternate tomatoes, mozzarella and basil leaves; meat kebabs for the main dish, and then you can do "strawberry shortcake" dessert kebabs where you alternate strawberries, pound cake cubes and whipped cream marshmallows!

Yummy :)

In these dark economic times I've been thinking about having a "Soup Kitchen" party. Four big pots of different soups. Breads and crackers. Maybe a salad bar to go with it.

I've also been thinking about a
70's party. Updated versions of stuff like spinach dip in a bread bowl, pimento cheese stuffed celery, deviled eggs, some kind of molded gelatin salad, etc. I think an old edition of Better Homes and Garden's cookbook might be in order for this one.
