Sad Update

I wanted to let you all know I appreciate your thoughts and prayers over the last week for our Martha Anne. Fate moved against us today and she got very ill, we were hoping to have her thru the summer, but her Vet said she was ready to go.

She passed away at about 5:15 p.m. this afternoon with the loving arms of her grandma, myself and her favorite doctor, Lisa Thrower wrapped around her body. She was peaceful and did not fight it.

My heart is crushed into so many pieces I don't know if or when I will ever get over it. She was my first Adult Dog and I loved her like she was my daughter, I cried on her fur so many times and she always knew when I need a lick or a lean. I cannot imagine my life without her, the future is unknown.

In the meantime, I will hold Bella Sue and be thankful her sister was here for as long as she was.StumbleUpon

My heart is breaking for you. I am facing losing my first adult dog in the future as well - she is getting really old, and I know it's coming. I am so sorry that you're having to go through this - and I pray that having Bella Sue will give you a distraction to help you heal.

I did that last year it is horrible. It is so sad that when we are sick they can't just put us to sleep. Sorry Cheryl my heart is braking for you. Where is the tissue.

Cheryl: Know that others feel your pain & are broken by the news. I too had two special girls that were litter mates for life. I had to make the hardest decision of my life the afternoon they left me. Remember Martha Ann is in a very special spot forever and that's in your heart. Empathy for you - Debby

Words cannot express how deeply sad I am for you right now. I am so sorry for your loss and hope that Bella will be able to help fill the emptiness left by your precious girl. We will all miss her. My husband and I love our dogs like they are our daughters too, and I cannot imagine what you are going thru right now. Only time can heal your pain. For now just lean on your family and friends and cherish the wonderful memories of your angel who is now watching over you.

This poem was especially comforting to me last year when I lost my my lab that lived with my mom (she had to stay when I grew up and moved out.) I had had her since college and she helped me thru some very dark times in my life.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Cheryl, my heart aches for you. You will grieve for Martha Anne for a long time. You will never forget her. I had "The Ultimate Dog", too.
What has helped me is to cling to the wonderful memories. Thank you for sharing those with us, each Tuesday. I was one of those quiet lurkers who looked at those photos and smiled. It makes me miss my Jamie, who passed away in 2003. I miss her, but I've learned to love my newest furry kids. Blessings.

I'm so sorry...I know you & J were great parents to her. I remember how I felt when my CrackerJack died. It breaks my heart to think of it. Let Bella fill that hole in your heart the best she can...for her big sister. Take care & let me know if you need a call from a far away place. :o)

We both are Very Saddened on Miss Martha leaving us at such a young age. She will be greatly missed by us every time we come over for a gathering. Sophie will miss playing with her older and MUCH taller cousin...But she loves her newest and MUCH smaller (more her size) cousin. They hopefully will become real close and play together for MANY years down the road. Hugs to you all, and let us know if you need anything from us.

Oh Cheryl, I'm so very, very sorry. Thank you for sharing Martha Anne with us on Tuesdays. Those posts brought so much fun across cyberspace as so many of us enjoyed looking at her outfits, collars, and expressions. My heart goes out to you and your hubby. Sending lots of hugs your way.

When we lost our first lab I think I cried for an entire year. Whenever anything remotely emotional arose my kiddos would ask me if I was going to cry. We have had several pass through our lives since then, but it still leaves an enormous hole. I will be thinking of you and knowing you are going through tough stuff. I'm so sorry.

I am so sorry to read this, Cheryl. I will miss her too, I've loved reading about her antics over the past few months.

Having been through the same thing myself, I understand the heartbreak you feel. It takes a long time but the grief will pass, and then you will only remember the joy she brought to your life. Love and hugs.
