Welcome to Tips from a Frugal Housewife!
Today's tip will save you tons of money depending on what brand of margarine you use. I use "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter", it is fairly heart healthy and actually tastes pretty darn good.
I buy the really big tub at Costco, and transfer it into the smaller tub when I run out. I replace my smaller tub every 3-4 months as it starts looking pathetic. If I could find a cute ceramic tub with a tight fitting lid, I would get rid of the smaller, plastic one for good!
The large tub will refill the smaller one about 4 times, and it is sooo much cheaper to buy the large one than smaller ones at the grocery store. You are saving a fairly good chunk of dinero by doing it this way!
Sorry about the blurry photo!

I need to investigate this type of frugality more. I'm a Costco member, and should take better advantage of buying in bulk. I don't utilize my freezer enough either. No better time than the present to get started!
great tip! thanks! I always try to buy in bulk too. Costco rocks!
I can't believe I didn't think of that!
You are the queen of frugality, I bow to you... I buythe huge filipo berio olive oil and pour off into smaller ones also.. great perv minds we think alike.
Great idea! I love hate going to Sam's Club...love the bargains, spend way too much money!
Great idea!
Great tip, Cheryl, even though I have to confess, I use artery clogging butter. But we don't use vast quantities of the stuff, and I just prefer the taste.
And like Donna, I buy those huge bottles of olive oil at Sam's Club, and then pour it into a smaller bottle.
you need to go on a huge spending spree with all the dough you're saving ;) good tip!
I have the same big container and I guess I should have learned from the many time being at your house that it is so much easier to bring a smaller container to the table!
I love your thinking! These frugal housewife tips are just awesome. And can we talk about how Costco is AMAZING?!
I know this post is over a year old, but have you googled the Butter Bell?
